Dedicated to reporting the world’s untold stories, she is available for reporting projects in the Middle East, Asia and beyond.
Christina, MS and MA, is a lecturer in the journalism department at Northwestern University in Qatar. Previously she reported for the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, where she covered a variety of international, under-reported issues, such as deteriorating press freedom in Ukraine, maternal mortality worldwide, net neutrality, the killing of independent journalists in the Caucasus, and the Chernobyl nuclear disaster anniversary and Fukushima nuclear crisis. She also ran workshops for foreign journalists on how to shoot and edit video.
Christina has reported for major news organizations across the globe, including TIME.com in London, E News in Johannesburg, and KVRR-TV as the station’s congressional correspondent in Washington, D.C. In 2009 she reported on the Gaza War for multiple news outlets, including WEWS News Channel 5 in Cleveland. Her work has appeared on CNN, Euronews and in THINK. Magazine, the Chicago Journal, the Christian Science Monitor and Women’s eNews, among other publications.
She earned a MA in Middle East Studies at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev as a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar to Israel and Palestine. There, she volunteered as an English tutor and video producer for Step Forward, an NGO working to empower the Bedouin population in the city of Rahat. Christina simultaneously earned a BS and MS in broadcast journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University through its Accelerated Master’s Degree Program. As an undergraduate, she studied abroad at the American University in Cairo, where she focused on refugee rights and mentored Sudanese refugees.
Christina was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She realized her passion for journalism early on when she founded and “published” a kids-run newspaper at the age of nine. As a student at Parma Senior High School, she reported for “Next,” the teen section in the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Ethnically Ukrainian, Christina speaks the language fluently. She is currently studying Arabic. She has expert knowledge of Final Cut Pro, Avid, Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, ENPS and more.
When she is not traversing the globe or covering the next big story, Christina can be found performing in musical theater or risking her life in an extreme sports thrill.
